This collection was entitled “Branching Out” not only because every image related to trees, but because it marked a creative departure for me.

Typically, I focus on man-made details vs. details found in nature. At least, I thought I never did any nature-inspired photographs until I looked through my negatives and noticed that trees routinely crept into my work. I had just never taken the time to make the connection – or the prints.

“She can’t see the forest for the trees” is an idiomatic phrase used for someone who is too involved in the details of a problem to look at the situation as a whole. That I can’t see the tree for the details of a deeply contorted branch, or a lush bloom, or a rhythmic pattern of fungus ….well, then that’s me.
